Hello Sydney!

So, I haven't been updating my blog much because I haven't really been doing anything exciting, until recently! I had an epic 4 days in Sydney with my awesome friend Saiah last weekend! This trip has totally changed my views on Sydney and I think I could love it just as much as I love Melbourne. The people there are friendly, the weather is great, and Sydney is just beautiful, everything is surrounded my sea! The only thing missing there was the cafe culture and graffiti ...! This trip was exactly what I needed because I was feeling a little down about life. Now I feel inspired and ready to take on new challenges! I guess you could say, this trip has really boosted my spirits! Here are some photos from the trip, enjoy:

My Blackbird, Fly toy camera

So I've decided to take a better photo of my blackbird fly camera! It's a twin-lens camera and it takes photos that look similar to the Holga (over-exposed images, multiple exposure ... etc etc). What I like most about this camera is that it has a few interesting modes: sq format, open and landscape. This is my 2nd time having brunch at The Hardware Societe, and I have been impressed every time. Their eggs are always cooked to perfection and I love the charming interior of the restaurant and their food presentation. Only problem, is that it's no secret to Melburnians! The place is always packed so expect to wait a good few minutes!

My terrarium

Bought some small plants at the garden shop with Geoff yesterday. I've put em in random glass jars and layered the bottom with some shells Geoff collected in Tasmania. I want to buy more little plants and interesting jars and stones. If some of you are wondering what a terrarium is, it's pretty much a low maintenance garden for indoors...ie. apartments. Here's a pic (more pictures soon):

Had Brunch at Mart 130! Great little cafe at the Middle Park tram stop (literally). Grab the 96 from Bourke St and get off a few stops after Albert Park! The place does awesome brunch and the atmosphere is great! Nice view of the park if you sit out the back. I want to try all of the Mart Egg specials! Definitely will go back there for Sunday Brunch. Did a bit of shopping at the Fat store, there are sales everywhere at the moment.

Baked Chorizo Eggs!

After eating at hardware societe and seeing their baked eggs, I've decided to attempt my own baked eggs!

So here's what you need:

-Some chopped spring onion
-Parmesan cheese
-milk
-chorizo
-1 to 2 eggs
-small baking cup
-Chopped tomato pieces
-Italian herb
(An alternative to chorizo sausage: bacon)

Instructions:

So. all you need to do is chop up your tomato and spring onion and chorizo and put them into the baking cup. Grease the cup with some butter before you do so! Break the egg on top of the chopped up items and sprinkle some parmesan cheese. Add some salt to taste and some italian herbs and spices! Pour a thin layer of milk right on the top to prevent egg from drying out too fast. Heat up the oven to 200c and bake for 10 to 12 minutes (less then 10 minutes if you like your yolk runny). If you have some parsley you can decorate the top with it (Eat with bread if desired).

End result:

Winter Comfort Food: Ginger!

With winter just around the corner, it is time for some warm comfort food. And the perfect ingredient for winter is ginger! I don't normally cook with ginger but last night my bf cooked me a ginger chicken stir fry and I loved it. Coming down with a flu at the moment and that was exactly what I needed to feel better!

Here are some recipes I want to try out:

Don't look so yummy here, but trust me it was good!
(ginger, chicken, lemongrass, cucumber,lime,red chili, coconut milk, thai green curry paste)

*update* I made my own version of this. turned out pretty good but a bit too spicy .. will use less paste and more coconut milk next time:

Took these photos of Geoff's garden over the weekend. I'm happy with this set of photos! I really enjoy nature photography! You get to see the beautiful details of plants and their lush colors. The next project I want to do is photograph my friends. I'd like to do a bit more portrait photography, but I know that will be a bit challenging as I will need to rely on natural lighting because of my limited camera equipment. I'm currently saving up for a new lens and also an external flash.

Surreal Dream

So I had the most surreal and beautiful dream last night and I thought I should share it will all of you. In my dream there was a beautiful beach that stretched out for hours. And on that beach were these really intricate ice sculptures of animals. I remember thinking to myself, "Stephanie, go get your camera as fast as you can and capture this moment before the ice melts". The sky was a nice mix of blue and orange and these sculptures were massive. As I ran towards these sculptures, I saw something sticking out of the sand and I walked towards it so I could pull it out. To my surprise it was a massive sword made of ice. I started swinging it around (zelda moment) and the whole moment was in slow motion. The sword was so detailed and sharp. Eventually the sword started to melt and it broke into half. I got closer to these amazing sculptures and forget to photograph them because I was too overwhelmed by their beauty. They kind of looked like huge swarovski crystals.

Maybe I will try to illustrate this idea so you guys can get a better picture :)

Went to the beach with Geoff on the weekend. Happy with the photos we took that day! I'm getting more comfortable with shooting in sunny locations. Experimenting with the aperture and getting the colors right. I got to play around with his camera and I must say, I do enjoy shooting with a wide angle lens. Got some very pretty landscape shots! Will post some of the photos I took with his camera soon.

If i get to travel next year it's to either London or Japan :) They're both so charming. But at the rate that I am spending I will never be able to save up for either. My manifesto: Design is a process that involves the exploration of ideas formed by human experiences. Every designer has their own unique method/ process of generating new ideas and solving problems. Design is not always a rational process and sometimes the best ideas are generated spontaneously and organically through random doodling on paper. As a designer, I believe there is no such thing as a bad idea. Any idea can be pushed and developed into something amazing through experimentation and self-belief. Design is about being bold and not afraid of showing off ones unique style. It is spontaneous, free, and at times self-indulgent.

Uni + life

The year has just kicked off and i'm in a new uni and in the process of moving into a new apartment with my sister. Pass few days have been interesting. I'm in a honours program called "meanwhile" and it is very refreshing. The course involves a lot of creative thinking and working with real clients which is definitely exciting. Our designs will hopefully have an impact in the community and that is probably the best part about the course. Aside from that, I am very anxious about the moving. Hopefully I can start living in the new apartment soon. Weekend is coming and i'm really looking forward to the Future Music Festival!

I'm kinda sad my holidays in kk are nearly up and I'll be flying back to Melbourne. Not looking forward to moving things around and getting life sorted out. SoOo much things to sort out. Sigh. That is life i guess. I do miss a special someone and can't wait to see him. 3 months of holiday is such a long time but it goes by in a blink of an eye. I'm seriously thinking about getting the latest i-phone. What do people think about the i-phone? I hear it has poor battery life :/ I just want the cool applications and the fact that it's mac compatible duh.

It's funny how one can be so attached to an object and not really realize this until it goes missing one day. Just a few minutes ago i was frantically searching for my missing mp3 player. I got it for christmas from my parents and it came free with the sony camera they got me lol (bargain yea?). I love it more then my i-pod strange enough. I think it's because it looks like a usb stick and has recording functions along with glowing lights. I like pretty lights O,O I can stare at those colorful screen savers for ages. oh and plus the fact that it's not an i-pod lol. Those things are way over-rated now. I guess this scenario can apply to people as well. Sometimes we take friends for granted because they're just around the corner, but what happens when they move away. Life is short and we need to cherish everything around us. Make those small moments count. Enjoy conversations and make conversations with people we have ignored without even realizing.

On ebay at the moment and I am falling in love with every single vintage leather bag i see on that site. Ah, ebay is certainly hands down one of the best sites to procrastinate on, besides the obvious facebook. I don't get twitter and I rather read peoples updates on facebook. Been busy working on my tan and pretending to run on the treadmill and swimming. My basketball skills have also improved. Holidays are great, so much free time. I actually have time to sit down and finish a book, to paint my nails, play virtual poker, listen to the radio and work on a tan, count the spots on my face and enter random competitions (won a autographed La Roux CD on Channel v). Love the weather here. The one thing i haven't had yet is coconut juice, god i will kill for one now...time to climb a coconut tree, wish me luck.

I have handed in my final folio containing 3 years of course work and it feels unbelievable good. Can't wait to do my own lil projects over the holiday. Still unsure of what I'm going to do next year. Might apply for jobs and honours programs. Woo! Exciting :)

Does anyone else feel as though the internet is isolating people? Because we're all a facebook away or an e-mail away, no one seems to crave social interaction anymore. No one bothered to meet up for coffee anymore or enjoy company. I feel as though i myself an very isolated these days, doing everything in my own little world. Coming back to my apartment and immediately turning to my computer for entertainment and relaxation time. What ever happened to just sitting down and reading a book or catching up with friends. I find myself growing bored of Melbourne and the people in it. I don't see many people these days, just my closest friends, those who still take the initiative to call me and meet up with me. Those who ACTUALLY care and are not too self absorbed. I think some people are so tied up in their personal relationships or career, that it becomes the only thing they think about. *sigh*. Sorry, but i just gotta rant.

Had lunch with Kat and ate a burger as big as my head. Walked into a shop @ Melb Central and saw the most adorable goldfish ever! Looked it up on google and it's called a black moor goldfish! I really want one now :) Did a drawing of black moor goldfish:

Hosier Lane

A friend of mine came down from Adelaide and we took her to Hosier Lane to admire some of the graffiti. Definitely a tourism attraction and something melbourne seems to be proud of. We also stumbled across a cool flower shop called pollon on Flinders lane. Feeling like a tourist is fun. Look out for the trippy photo at the end. Some pictures from my camera phone:

For our end of year exhibition we had to make a book + poster. I did my book on Melbourne's nightlife through the lens of a fisheye :) Stalked my friends and took photos of two different party scenes. Crazy stuff. Used expired film if your wondering how i got some of the weird over saturated effects. Here are some photos from the 2 nights:

I've changed the layout of this blog a little and shut my other blog (hideandsleep). From now on this blog with be both my life blog and art blog.
